Hi, I’m Phillip Kennedy and I’m the owner and distiller of Guyedy Hydrosols.
I currently live in Mount Annan but am moving to Millingandi on the far south coast of NSW in July 2017. Of a weekend I’m busy either collecting leaves, distilling our hydrosol or packaging our product down at ‘the farm’ in Bombala.
Guyedy Hydrosols is all about the sustainable production of natural products with a focus on eucalyptus hydrosol based products hand made from the leaf of the peppermint gum (Eucalyptus dives).
When we first purchased our property in Bombala it was about getting back to nature and away from the rat race, however the more we learnt about its history the more we wanted to do something more with the property.
We discovered that eucalyptus oil used to be produced over 50 years ago on the property as it contained a unique type of eucalyptus tree known commonly as the peppermint gum and scientifically as eucalyptus dives.
The beauty of the peppermint gum is that it has a higher oil component within its leaf than any other eucalyptus tree making it perfect for the production of eucalyptus oil and now hydrosol.
A hydrosol, also know as floral waters, hydrolates, herbal waters and essential waters, are aqueous products of distillation. They are colloidal suspensions of essential oils as well as water-soluble components obtained by steam distillation of plants.
Our Eucalyptus Hydrosols are distilled from rainwater collected at the foot of the snowy mountains through the leaves of the peppermint gum collected and distilled through a stainless steel still on our property just outside the small town of Bombala in NSW.
There are many benefits and uses for eucalyptus Hydrosols as its a natural antiseptic, antibacterial agent and decongestant.
Eucalyptus Hydrosols can be used as antibacterial spray. (spray on surfaces prone to germ build up such as bench tops, door handles or phones.)
The spray can be used as a natural hand sanitizer, simple spray directly on hands and rub in a little.
Spray on your pillow at night if you’re congested or just for a soothing smell.
Put some in an oil burner or diffuser to deodorise a room and give a fresh fragrance.
Put a squirt in your bath water or even in the rinse cycle of your sheets and towels to help naturally soften, deodorise and get rid of germs.
